At Greenhouse Ministries, I was given the opportunity to supervise Level I students. This experience has made me take on a leadership role that I did not think would come into play until later down the road after receiving my license. Although taking on the role as a supervisor came earlier than expected, I have to say that I have loved getting to share my experiences and what I have learned with the students. I feel like we (Rachel, Katherine, and myself) are able to connect with the students and help them understand, as we were just in their shoes not long ago. As their supervisor, I let them observe me during treatment sessions, as well as get them involved by letting them design interventions. Being able to teach them about the OT process and how to interact with clients, has made me realize how far we have all come since the beginning of school. However, when they ask difficult questions I am reminded that we still have a long way to go in becoming experienced practitioners. I always try to serve as a role model to them, and exemplify the AOTA code of ethics into my every day practice. We all received great feedback from the students, and they said that they enjoyed learning from us. It makes me excited to take students in the future.
The picture above is feedback that was given to me by Level I students. It serves as evidence that I was ethical in practice and a role model to others.
