This is an activity that I performed with one of my clients at Greenhouse Ministries. She was preparing to go on a job interview, and during her mock interview session she was unable to list any of her strengths and talents. In order to increase her self-esteem and confidence, I had her think about positive traits about herself and how we could best communicate that to others.
At Greenhouse Ministries, I have client who is also a volunteer. During our OT sessions, I noticed that she tends to focus on the negative aspects about herself. She stated things like, "I would never be able to do that," or "people think that I am dumb". In order to break that negative thought pattern, and for her to realize how valued she is at Greenhouse, I told her to write her name in the middle of the notebook paper. I then passed the paper around to everyone at Greenhouse and had them write words to describe my client. The word "talented" was written three times. This made my client understand how she was a significant person at Greenhouse, as well as learn how others perceive her in a more positive way than she views herself.
