The document below is a guide that I made for future Level II students that have an acute care rotation at Baptist Memorial Hospital. In the document, I included pictures and explanations of common lines and machines the students will encounter. I also included tips on when to terminate the treatment session and signs and symptoms to watch out for. Every day in this setting I encountered risks, such as mobilizing clients on a ventilator, manipulating chest tubes, and managing lines. At first, I was overly cautious with mobilizing these clients, but then I realized that even though they are critically ill, they still need to move in order to prevent further disability. I created this document in hopes that the students after me will be more familiar with the lines and equipment, and therefore be more comfortable with taking risks to maximize outcomes.
